Skip the Crowds: 7 Reasons to Visit Navarre Beach This Fall
There is something special about summer on Navarre Beach. The days are long, the Gulf is beautiful, and families are everywhere enjoying their summer vacations.
But here is a little secret from those of us who actually live here.
Fall might be even better.
Once Labor Day passes, Navarre Beach seems to settle into a slower pace. The beach gets quieter, the sunsets seem a little more peaceful, and you can enjoy many of the things people love about summer without quite as much hustle and bustle.
If you have never visited Navarre Beach in September, October, or November, you may be missing one of the best times of the entire year.
Here are seven reasons we love fall on Navarre Beach.
1. The Crowds Begin to Thin Out
This is probably the first thing you will notice.
Summer is our busiest season, especially when families are traveling while school is out. After Labor Day, things start slowing down.
There is simply more room to relax.
You can spread out on the sand, take a peaceful morning walk along the Gulf, enjoy the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier, or sit on your balcony with a cup of coffee and listen to the waves.
Restaurants and local attractions can also feel a little more relaxed once the peak summer rush is over.
For couples, empty nesters, remote workers, retirees, or families who have flexibility in their travel schedule, this can be a wonderful time to visit.
Sometimes the best beach vacation is the one where you do not have much of a schedule at all.
2. You Can Still Enjoy Beautiful Beach Days
A lot of people assume beach season ends when summer vacation ends.
Not in Northwest Florida.
September especially can still feel very much like summer on Navarre Beach. Warm days and Gulf water make it possible to spend plenty of time on the beach.
As we move farther into October and November, mornings and evenings generally become more comfortable, which can make outdoor activities even more enjoyable.
Of course, Florida weather can always surprise us, and conditions can change from one week to another. But fall can give you that wonderful combination of beach weather without the intense heat of the middle of summer.
Bring the swimsuit.
You may need it.
3. Fall Sunsets on Navarre Beach Are Hard to Beat
We may be a little biased, but there are not many things better than watching the sun go down from Navarre Beach.
Fall evenings are perfect for slowing down and enjoying them.
Grab a chair and sit on the beach. Walk down to the water. Watch from the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier. Or, even better, choose a vacation rental with a balcony where you can enjoy the view without going anywhere.
One of our favorite parts about living here is that the Gulf never looks exactly the same two days in a row.
Some evenings are bright orange.
Some are pink and purple.
Others are soft, quiet, and almost pastel.
And every once in a while you get one of those sunsets that makes everybody stop what they are doing and pull out their phone.
4. Fall Fishing Can Be Fantastic
If fishing is part of your perfect beach vacation, fall deserves a spot on your calendar.
As Gulf waters begin cooling, fishing activity changes and several popular species can become active around Navarre.
Depending on the month and conditions, anglers may find Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, pompano, redfish, flounder, black drum, sheepshead, speckled trout, and other species.
You do not necessarily need a boat either.
The Navarre Beach Fishing Pier and the surf provide opportunities to wet a line without heading offshore.
And even if you are not much of a fisherman, walking the pier is worth doing at least once. You never know what you might see swimming through the clear Gulf water below.
5. Navarre Beach Feels Like Navarre Beach Again
This one is a little harder to explain unless you have experienced it.
When the busiest part of summer ends, the island seems to exhale.
There is a slower rhythm.
Morning walks last a little longer. Beach chairs have a little more space between them. You might spend an afternoon reading on the balcony instead of trying to fit five activities into one day.
That laid back feeling is one of the reasons so many people fall in love with Navarre Beach in the first place.
We sometimes hear Navarre described as one of Florida's quieter beach destinations.
Fall is when you really understand why.
6. It Is Perfect for a Long Weekend or Last Minute Getaway
Not every beach vacation needs to be planned six months in advance.
One of the things we love about fall is how easy it can be to say, "Why don't we go to the beach this weekend?"
A few nights can be enough to recharge.
Arrive, unpack, grab something good to eat, and go watch the sunset.
The next morning, drink your coffee overlooking the water. Spend the day on the beach. Visit the pier. Grab some fresh seafood for dinner.
Then wake up and do it again.
That sounds pretty good to us.
Fall can also bring more vacation rental choices than the busiest weeks of summer, giving you a better opportunity to find the property that fits your group.
Mermaid Mansions offers everything from cozy condos for couples to larger vacation homes for families and groups. You can also search for properties with Gulf front locations, water views, pools, and pet friendly options.
7. You Get to Experience Navarre Beach Like a Local
This may be our favorite reason.
We have been welcoming guests to Navarre Beach since 2005, and because we live right here on the island, we get to experience every season.
Summer is exciting.
Spring is beautiful.
Winter has its own peaceful charm.
But fall?
Fall is when you might find some of us sitting on the beach ourselves.
There is something wonderful about waking up to a quieter island, seeing that beautiful Gulf outside, and realizing that there really is nowhere else you need to be.
That is the Navarre Beach we love.
And it is the Navarre Beach we want our guests to experience too.
What Should You Do During a Fall Trip to Navarre Beach?
You certainly do not need a packed itinerary, but if you want to explore, there is plenty to do.
Spend a morning walking the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier.
Take a bike ride around the island.
Visit the Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center.
Go kayaking or paddleboarding.
Try your luck surf fishing.
Take a dolphin or sunset cruise.
Grab lunch or dinner at one of our local restaurants.
Drive over to Pensacola for a day trip.
Or simply put your phone away, grab a beach chair, and spend the afternoon listening to the Gulf.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with making "nothing" your vacation plan.
September, October, or November: Which Month Should You Choose?
Honestly, they each have something different to offer.
September
September is great for travelers who still want that summer beach feeling but would rather visit after the peak summer crowds begin leaving.
If your idea of vacation involves swimsuits, beach chairs, and spending as much time near the Gulf as possible, September deserves serious consideration.
October
October might be one of our favorite months on Navarre Beach.
The island is quieter, temperatures are generally becoming more comfortable, and it is a great time for fishing, walking, biking, and spending long days outside.
You still get the beach experience, just with a different pace.
November
November brings another change.
The weather becomes cooler and the island gets even quieter. This can be a wonderful time for couples, longer stays, Thanksgiving trips, and anyone who simply wants to escape and enjoy the Gulf without needing a traditional summer beach vacation.
Pack a light jacket for those cooler mornings and evenings and enjoy the view.
